Place to Be

No one will rank Kornél Mundruczó’s tender late-life drama, written by creative and life partner Kata Wéber, among the highest ranks of Ellen Burstyn’s most hallowed works.

In reality, the director's tepid vision and Kata Wéber's opaque penmanship attempt to reap the benefits of seeds the script never bothers to sow.

A sentimental if rather endearing friendship dramedy that could perhaps be described as Trains, Planes and Automobiles meets Harold and Maude, or something like that.

Place to Be is a bright, splashy, amusing comedy movie with heart and humor aplenty. One of my favorite aspects of the screenplay is the way Burstyn's character loves to use old words that we rarely ever hear anymore.
