The film is both funny and clever.

RTThe Times (UK)Apr 22, 2024

The movie remains essential viewing for Tinseltown completists, and there are some smart set pieces from the director Mike Nichols, including a slapstick traffic jam on a midnight bridge.

The Fortune is an occasionally enjoyable comedy trifle.

The film does not build up enough feeling for either the crooks or Miss Channing to draw the viewer into the zany happenings on screen.
