Storyline

Since the birth of the male review in the late 1970s, the greatest male strippers in the world can all be traced back to one club... La Bare Dallas. La Bare gives you a behind the curtains look at the lives, loves, laughs, and loss of the current crop of dancers as well as the man that’s been going strong for over three decades since the club’s inception, Randy “Master Blaster” Ricks.

You'll get your man-cake, if that's what you came for, but Manganiello works hard to show the sometimes harsh realities behind the oiled pecs and tear-away pants.

"La Bare" shows its reality-TV origin in its structure, to sometimes a clichd degree, but overall it is a friendly and affectionate backstage look at the world of the mostly-straight male dancers at La Bare.

It's hardly an essay on gender politics, but read between the lines and you'll find some interesting contrasts.

While (director Joe) Manganiello takes a generally straightforward, positive approach to his subject(s), he does show a bit of the dark side. Anyone interested in the art and/or commerce of male stripping will surely enjoy it.
