This unnecessary sequel, lacking the original's assets, plays like a vapid Transformers knockoff.

I'm not sure even fans will find this industrial-strength head-banger entertaining. The best thing is that Pacific Rim: Uprising is under two hours though I have to warn you - it feels much longer.

Pacific Rim: Uprising is the skim atop your cooling soup: an unnecessary goop spoiling your appetizing meal.

At the end of the day, Pacific Rim: Uprising achieves exactly what it sets out to do: pit giant robots against giant monsters on an even bigger scale than before... but the plot is (obviously) daft.
