What is this telenovela doing in a cinema?

W

Wendy Ide

RTObserver (UK)Jun 26, 2016

The treatment of the subject is rather crass - Medem's directorial flourishes are undermined by a score that pushes every weepy button it can shake a quavering violin at.

A hugely charismatic turn by Penélope Cruz is wasted.

Penélope Cruz is luminous and with the force of her charisma holds the film together as the suffering madonna, unbelievably cheerful and selfless throughout her protracted ordeal.
