Rohmer, like Jean Renoir, doesn’t see things in purely black-and-white terms, and the fun of his movies is in how he shows each of his characters from a number of different angles, shifting our sympathies subtly with nearly every shot.

It was perhaps high time that one of the delightful women who have led Rohmer's heroes such a teasing dance was put in her place.

Le Beau Mariage never really seems to get outside the groove that Rohmer sets it in. Even for Rohmer, a director with an indirect style and approach, the film is too oblique.

I find the film, considered the second in his 'Comedies and Proverbs', bland and disappointing when Rohmer repeatedly addresses issues related to whims, indecision and marriage. [Full review in Spanish]
