Bolstered by some handsome production values as well as its powerhouse lead performances, the film is another fine, if over-long period drama from Lee Joon-ik

The story is shocking enough without the excess scenes of melodramatic rage from every character.

Based on one of Korea's most infamous incidents, The Throne is tense, enthralling and beautifully acted. I wish all history lessons were as engaging as this.
