The Fly

It the gross-out element weren't so high, "The Fly" would be a much better film.

Cronenberg's insistence on step-by-stop documentation of Brundle's conversion to insect takes most of the terror out of the creature.

What might have collapsed into another routine horror film has emerged as a disturbing and nightmarish cinema statement in the talented hands of David Cronenberg.

The Fly brought the creature feature into ’80s modernity with a sharp script, up-and-coming stars, and state-of-the-art, stomach-churning visual effects.
