The 1971 Michael Caine classic Get Carter unfortunately led to a dismal 2000 remake starring Sylvester Stallone -- less known is that it also led to an equally pathetic 1974 blaxploitation version.

George Armitage didn’t make many films but he often made them matter — a sort of ethnographic exploration of crimes and their underpinning cultures. Although the thread count exceeds energy early on, "Hit Man" is a satisfying slice of vengeance cinema.

A poor reworking of the much superior Mike Hodges' 1971 Get Carter film.
