The Rape of Recy Taylor

The subject matter is harrowing enough without extra strings.

Very much of the Me Too moment, this uneven but important documentary exists to give a voice to the voiceless, in this case the "staggering" number of black women raped by white men throughout US history.

A prescient and important film about the civil rights movement and one woman's fight for justice, which is told honestly and respectfully.

“The Rape of Recy Taylor” is not an easy film to watch, but it brings Taylor to life in a way that shows her as a complete person in contrast to true crime, which sensationalizes the situation and creates the pleasure of tabloid.
