It shocks and awes the viewer, confusing brute force for real power; its God is an awesome God.

The Last Photograph is ultimately a superficial departure for the director that mines a familiar, shallow thematic pool about the psychological burden of witnessing and perpetrating brutality.

Overstuffed with pretentious symbolism and flatly delivered, vapid dialogue that constantly overstates the obvious, the ultraviolent film is certain to be regarded as a major disappointment by Snyder’s rabid fan base.

As much as I respect Snyder attempting to be a more mature filmmaker, it’s clear that the story he’s attempting to tell is out of his depth. The Last Photograph is a film about very mature topics delivered in the most extreme, immature way possible.
