Cabiria

It should be said that the pictures have been most carefully thought out, and that there is none of the crudity and bad taste which have marred many earlier picture-spectacles.

Fire effects, a volcanic eruption, battles, thrilling adventures on land and water, crowds of actors make a kaleidoscope of action that lasts for more than two hours, and the incidents follow in a succession so rapid as to be sometimes a little confusing.

Cabiria is a great conception, and it has been wonderfully realised.

As a silent historical epic, it has colossal sets that are framed with sophisticated camera movements, but in general I get the feeling that Pastrone does not add enough strength to the characters. [Full review in Spanish]
