The Stone Speakers

The psychology behind the popularity of these sites is intriguing, and Drljaca's camera travels each scene with slow insistence on its remarkable beauty.

[Filmmaker Igor] Drljača got two very important things right: the decision to interview only older protagonists... in a country from which a startling proportion of young people emigrate to the West; and to let the places speak for themselves.

The juxtaposition of all four tourism strategies leaves an uneasy sense that beneath the promotion of each site's claim to historical authenticity, something significant is being left out: Bosniak history.

The Stone Speakers presents a meditative look at a society still trying to reconcile with the lingering impact of war.
