It's a chance to watch Pearce and his remarkable cheekbones and gleeful weirdness at work with a scripture-chewing performance that puts a lot of meat on what could have been an off-the-peg turn from a lesser actor.

Pearce gets the good lines, which he delivers with a sinister nonchalance that says, "The devil made me do it. Or maybe it was my accountant."

A movie like this needs to be more in-your-face. Instead, its intensity level rarely rises above a mutter.

Sadly, The Seventh Day can't muster much in the way of anything near that and instead opts to be a dull meditation on what goes into having faith. Considering the power of Christ compels us – it's not that compelling.
