Even if American Night flirts constantly with ludicrousness, it is never boring.

Unfortunately American Night often replicates without significantly expanding on a bunch of post-Tarantino clichés about individualism, free will, and the value of art in a world that's run by shallow gangsters and doofy try-hards.

American Night clouds the mind, perhaps by design. Its glamorized vision of cultural connoisseurs, frames art as something even more coveted than money, drugs, or power itself.

Stylish and engaging, even if it runs longer than it needs to.
