Cultural specificity only brings so much freshness to an overlong tale that ultimately trades in too many familiar tropes...

Overall, I still cannot call The Medium a badly made film. It knows how to make an engaging story, and it uses multiple old horror tricks and shows you can still make something new out of the old.

The film's first two acts move at a subtle, simmering pace, but the finale is sheer frightening chaos.

There will be times where you will undoubtedly have to look away because things on screen are plain nasty.
