The Confession

The film is a long interview, interspersed with news footage, but what makes it compelling is the smooth, wary intelligence of Begg as he answers for his actions -- and others' suspicions -- which resulted in him being tortured in prison.

In this post-Chilcot moment, this principled, consistent testimony - coming as it does from deep within Islam - assumes a rare gravity and profound moral force.

What makes The Confession so effective is that we as viewers are never explicitly asked to take Moazzam Begg's side; merely to listen to what he has to say.

Far from being a shock expos, the film sees Moazzam argue his beliefs with intelligence, compassion and valuable insight.
