As deft as “Not Okay” is for realizing the virtually vampiric nature of how trauma is absorbed in today’s culture, it completely avoids engaging with the role race plays.

Not Okay is an unflinching look at not just the superficiality of influencer culture but the ghastly commodification of trauma and tragedy that raises awareness but rarely actually helps anyone.

The appreciable audacity of what [writer/director Quinn] Shephard is trying to do coupled with the stellar work of a uniformly great cast make this off-beat satire worth a "like and subscribe."

The film is desperate to make sure that we know that it knows just how poorly its main character is behaving. While that self-conscious quality makes for an entertaining and often clever watch, it also breeds a tangled struggle between cynicism and hope.
