Storyline

When Audrey's business trip to Asia goes sideways, she enlists the aid of Lolo, her irreverent, childhood best friend who also happens to be a hot mess; Kat, her college friend turned Chinese soap star; and Deadeye, Lolo's eccentric cousin. Their no-holds-barred, epic experience becomes a journey of bonding, friendship, belonging, and wild debauchery that reveals the universal truth of what it means to know and love who you are.

Critics consensus

“Joy Ride isn't afraid to shock with its gross-out gags, but this road trip's real surprise is how successfully it blends its raunchy humor with real heart.”

In spite of some moments of heart and emotional heft, it always feels it’s working too hard at brash, brassy feminist representation.

The humour is crude, ribald and deliciously unsavoury – everything you could hope for, in fact.

Hsu and Cola balance the mania well against Park’s straight woman sincerity, but it’s Wu, a rising star on the standup scene, who serves as Joy Ride’s surprise MVP.

Joy Ride is a little bit raunchy, a little bit sweet, and a whole lot of fun.
