RTWall Street JournalNov 18, 2021

The director's not-quite-articulated conclusion about his subject is that Martin's blithe charm was a cover for self-doubt. And as upright a citizen as he might have been, it was not just an uneasy but an unhappy head that wore the crown of cool.

[An] affectionate and incisive documentary portrait of the fabulously famous and intensely private star.

RTFilm InquiryDec 4, 2021

In the vein of Citizen Kane, the documentary sets out on the foolhardy task of finding Dean Martin's Rosebud: the puzzle piece to unlock what made him tick, but The King of Cool slowly begins to evolve into something else that's more evident with time.

No reinventing of the documentary form is happening here, but anyone interested in the slightest of any of those phases of Martin's life will be interested.
