An affectionate, candid portrait of the artist over many decades, Never Too Late may not go to every corner of the Rocketman’s world. But every direction it takes is entertaining, enlightening and very Elton.

I was really hoping for something that was completely comprehensive that went from the start of his life to where he is now. It sort of felt that they kind of cut and showed certain bits.

It is not the same as the 1997 touring documentary, Tantrums and Tiaras, directed by Furnish, which gave a sharper view of Elton John’s temper and the nervous energy of his creativity. But there is, as ever, pleasure and awe in hearing his great songs.

Watch Rocketman instead and then come back to Never Too Late in case you need to satisfy just a little more of your curiosity.
