Between a harrowing plane crash and a vicious lion attack, the thrills are minimal in this survival saga that winds up as generic as its title.

There’s always something mildly repulsive about narratives that credit God for a protagonist’s survival but apportion no blame to Him for putting them into that scrape in the first instance, and it’s even worse when the film itself is a stinker.

The plot’s too logic-deprived, the characters too wispy-thin, the situation too predictable, the seams of the production too visible.

Hirsch, who is nothing if not prolific, hasn’t had great luck with his recent roles, but dominates most of this film and gets to remind us what he’s capable of.
