Uthaug is a confident entertainer-craftsman who sells the script’s occasionally groan-worthy clichés with humor and smart pacing. There’s plenty of visual stimulus, both scenic and fantastical.

The characterisation is token, and the quip embellishment is weak. Norse mythology is an atypical starting point for monster movies, but deploying it as rotely as this, the film has little chance of standing out from the mockbuster wallpaper.

‘Troll 2,’ a sequel to the crowd-pleasing 2022 Norwegian giant creature feature, doesn’t have nearly enough action, monster-related or otherwise, to justify its existence.

The special effects again better many a big-budget Hollywood adventure and the damage done by the giant monster is impressive in its scale.
