[This] documentary portrait of Honig at the end of his life ... puts the poet's state of constant "now" in the context of the brilliant but sometimes cruel man he used to be.

Using a powerful focal point to manifest the movie's central concerns, Berliner makes his interest in the topic relevant to everyone.

Heartbreaking, haunting and unexpectedly heartening, "First Cousin Once Removed" is an uncommonly moving documentary portrait of a mind in disarray.

A haunting, masterfully made, and achingly melancholy portrait of the end of life.
