Chum

The daft script, credited to Joe Leone and director Jonathan Zuck, practically draws targets on these supporting characters’ backs, daring the audience to guess which annoying idiot will be thrown overboard first to engage with the toothy foe.

Bottom line: die-hard shark-movie fans might find enough here to justify a watch. Anyone hoping for the next cult creature-feature gem, though, will find Chum is bait that never quite lands the catch.

Like an impoverished intern faced with trays of Pret a Manger sandwiches at their first office lunch meeting, the shark starts eating and never stops, every crunch and tear magnified by Chum‘s sound team.

Chum has a pretty interesting premise, but it’s very much failed by the execution. The plotting is too contrived, the characters are too thin and a most of the performances are a little off.
