"King Kong Escapes" is a stoopid fresh monster movie. As you watch it, any initial instinct you might have ridicule it will give way to appreciation.

It's good, simple low comedy, directed by Alan Rafkin, and seeing it is like being transported back to a Saturday afternoon in a small-town movie house 30 years ago.

That said, both of the Tojo Kong movies are entertaining, for their cringe-inducing moments, and for the genuine beauty of Toho's model-work, rendered in Tohoscope.

Plays like a romper room version of a James Bond adventure.
