While this triptych portrait of three modern Indian women who have decided, for various reasons, to wed in this way provides some insights, it feels like a tiny chink into a vast and complex subject

A Suitable Girl proves a somber lament for a part of the world still clinging to its restrictive past, at great cost to (particularly) its female population.

Movingly chronicles its subjects' emotional travails and the societal and family pressures they face.

A documentary that is simultaneously inquisitive, critical of, and loving toward the complexities of societal expectations alongside an evolving world, and will genuinely open your eyes to the layers of a tradition that aren't typically peeled back.
