Nowhere

Powered by an immense ’90s soundtrack (30-plus songs in its 82-minute runtime), Nowhere’s parody-indulgence of the era’s alt-nihilism is absurd, deeply evocative and undeniably cool.

Spinning his wheels, Araki has made yet another film about disaffected youth, and while thematically, Nohere has nothing new to offer, there are some minor visual rewards; film's title also describes Araki's lack of direction.

Nowhere is a total explosion of ambition, originally crafted as a TV pilot and crammed with enough characters to fill several seasons, it chases them for 78 relentless minutes through the hills and valleys of Los Angeles and existence itself.

It is the cinematic equivalent of shoegaze music — dreamy and disorienting in equal measure, evincing a disquieting sensuality filled with stark close-ups, disconcerting angles and fractured editing.
