Storyline

This groundbreaking film reveals the truth surrounding Australia’s love-hate relationship with its beloved icon. The kangaroo image is proudly used by top companies, sports teams and as tourist souvenirs, yet when they hop across the vast continent some consider them to be pests to be shot and sold for profit. KANGAROO unpacks a national paradigm where the relationship with kangaroos is examined.

It's not necessary to believe every claim in the film, which inclines towards an animal liberation stance, but there's enough to make you weep for this unique species.

The filmmakers talk to people on both sides of the argument, and people who are in-between. Everyone gets a fair say.

Turns out Australia's national icon is one mightily maligned marsupial, as revealed by the eye-opening investigative documentary "Kangaroo: A Love-Hate Story."

Balanced it is not, but Kangaroo: A Love-Hate Story proves to be a bluntly effective, in a pry-your-eyes-open-with-a-crowbar kind of way, piece of animal welfare advocacy.
