Critics consensus

“The True Adventures of Wolfboy can be frustratingly uneven, but a worthy story and compassion for its characters help make this coming-of-age story's flaws easy to forgive.”

This fey, magical realism fable is an interesting mixture of winning charm, smug knowingness and vulnerability.

This is a good-looking film with some nice stylistic touches and even a nod to Turturro's legendary Jesus Quintana character from The Big Lebowski. But it never addresses some real behavioral problems...

At every moment, I was holding my breath and waiting for this film to become treacle, just absolute cotton candy. To the credit of director Martin Krejcí and writer Olivia Dufault: they take some time choices. They don't sugarcoat everything.

I admire its willingness to try new things even if they don’t always land.
