The Last Mitterrand

Whatever the filmmaker's intentions, one feels that ultimately he was rather overawed and intimidated, like much of the French "left," by the late president.

A thought-provoking film which will be of interest to not only those familiar with Mitterrand's political career, but also those partial to sage, wintry cinematic portraits.

In spite of [a] lofty idea and the film's excellent pedigree, The Last Mitterand, like the great man's term in office, ultimately fails.

A brilliantly acted, directed and written look at the last days of the French president and the relationship he had with his biographer.
