Storyline

Hundreds of refugee children in Sweden, who have fled with their families from extreme trauma, have become afflicted with 'uppgivenhetssyndrom,' or Resignation Syndrome. Facing deportation, they withdraw from the world into a coma-like state, as if frozen, for months, or even years.

Life Overtakes Me does indeed overtake us, reminding us of the perils refugees face, even when the guns cease to fire and the violence ends.

As if being a parent wasn't tough enough then you watch this 40 minute film by directors John Harper and Kristine Samuelson and it gives parents one more thing to worry about.

There are a lot of unanswered questions. Wisely, the film doesn't attempt to answer them, simply setting out the facts as they are understood and inviting empathy.

Life Overtakes Me is definitely a tough watch. But it's worthwhile to put it on just to be aware of the extreme stress refugee families - especially their children - go through in other parts of the world.
