This must be crime thriller as borderline-surreal fantasy, but lacking in the verve to conjure any nightmarish aura capably. In fact, it's disastrously literal-minded.

Carrisi's puzzle is overstuffed and overlong. And his pay-off is so baffling that even after 24 hours of diving down Google rabbit holes, I'm still not convinced it amounts to a heap of carrots.
