French director Thomas Vincent’s feature is lacking in laughs, a genuine marital dynamic, and decent action sequences.

Like a guy at a bar telling you a very long joke. You laugh politely each time the story seems to be winding up, which it isn’t, until the fellow brings things to a close by telling you his house burned down just after he made the last mortgage payment.

Director Thomas Vincent plays it safe which, for an action comedy hinging on the sexy fascination of spying, makes for a flaccid film all around.

Although Role Play has a mega talented cast including Kaley Cuoco and David Oyleowo, muted action can’t spice up this tale of deception and marital mayhem.
