Flashbacks while in the water to the often harsh treatment of the girls by their overbearing father are more intrusive than informative. In the end, The Dive is an admirable niche film for a limited audience.

“The Dive” feels routine, a soggy journey from point A to point B that doesn’t do anything interesting enough to make it stand out in the dog days of summer.

The Dive uses its underwater setting to add new thrills to a formulaic survivalist story, even if its attempts at emotional depth end up feeling a little shallow.

The concept soon runs out of breath due to its anti-climactic scenes of peril and stilted interactions between its two leading ladies that drain the tension from some of its most action-packed sequences.
